2024 SUMMER SESSION AT THE SUNBRIDGE INSTITUTE, NEW YORK

Sunbridge’s low-residency Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education program accepts applications from both current and aspiring Waldorf early childhood educators. A full WECAN member institute, Sunbridge’s birth-to-seven program meets (and exceeds) WECAN’s minimum expectations of class contact hours and mentored teaching and fieldwork experiences for lead nursery, pre-school, and kindergarten teachers, parent-child class leaders, and extended care providers in Waldorf schools and early childhood settings.

Coursework takes place in 13 weeks of classes held over the course of 25 months in the beautiful and historic Threefold Educational Foundation campus setting, and supplemented by occasional online evening classes occurring between sessions. Students (and faculty) come to Sunbridge from schools across North America and beyond, leading to a rich and varied classroom experience for all.

What You Will Study This Summer

First year students entering this June will participate in:

  • Early Childhood Development and the Work of the Educator with Nancy Blanning
  • Festivals and the Cycle of the Year with Leslie Burchell-Fox
  • Anthroposophy in Everyday Life with Andrea Gambardella
  • Practical Activities of Waldorf Early Childhood Education with Jane Swain, Rebecca Ruof, and Rie Seo
  • Hand Gesture Games with Lynn St. Pierre
  • Eurythmy with Melissa Lyons and Laura Radefeld
  • Clay Modeling with Marina McGrew
  • Woodworking/Basketry with Kemal Lowenthal
  • Biography Study with Linda Ogden-Wolgemuth
  • Fieldwork experiences and mentoring sessions, which vary according to your work status, take place starting in the fall.

Approximately 75% of the Early Childhood students receive financial aid that takes up to 40% off the cost of tuition. Assistance comes in the form of Sunbridge scholarships, AWSNA loans and grants, and Diversity Fund Scholarships, and 10% discounts are offered when two or more students from any one school attend.

Early Childhood Teacher Education at Sunbridge will not enroll again until 2026. Don’t miss this opportunity to take part in a premier teacher education program!
