When Reality Itself Becomes a Marketable Product: A Talk by Boyd Collins

The metaverse is being advertised as a technology that allows users to create their own realities. However, it will also allow the behavioral modification techniques currently used in social media to become far more effective, which may lead to what the father of virtual reality, Jaron Lanier, calls “the ultimate Skinner box.”

Dear Friends,
You are all cordially invited to join us this coming Saturday, the 2nd, with writer and technologist Boyd Collins for a very critical talk on what we are all, right now, walking into; The Metaverse (see full details below).

While so many world events are captivating our attention in real time, two major paths for humanities future are being rolled out behind the scenes. These two paths are Outer Space and its colonization and Inner Space, known simply as virtual reality, but a virtual reality that most will soon live and work within.

I hope you will join us this Saturday, 2nd at 10 am PDT.
All are welcome!

Boyd Collins is the second talk in our series on Current Events hosted by CFAE’s new media platform, CFAE Media. The first talk by Harrie Salman, called: Causes and Consequences of the War in Ukraine. Both the video and audio only are now available.   Click the link below to sign up

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Managing Director, CFAE

Boyd Collins has thirty years of experience building web applications and is the author of numerous articles on how to free ourselves from social media addiction. Please Join Current Events and Boyd Collins as he describes the metaverse and the type of human being it is designed to produce. The tech giants are spending many billions on the transition from social media to the embodied internet, an interoperable network of 3D virtual worlds that can be customized according to user requirements. However, as with social media, it is not the platform, but the user, that is the product. The platform reduces the human being to a collection of psychological drives and removes the “I”, the “authentic self” from its center. In the metaverse, the inner self is treated as a neurological illusion which can be manipulated in order to drive user engagement.
