WORLD PREMIERE OF LEOPOLD VAN DER PALS’ SONATA FOR CELLO AND PIANO, OP. 5A

Leopold van der Pals’s two orchestra pieces ”Frühling und Herbst” were premiered in Carnegie Hall, NYC, in 1911 by New York Philharmonic, and now his descendant will return to the same place with a pianist Pål Eide for another world premiere: Leopold van der Pals’ first cello Sonata Op. 5a (from 1906) in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, NYC, on November 10.

The rest of the program is dedicated to the composers that helped him on his way: Rachmaninov, Glazunov, Glière, and Tchaikovsky.

The work with Leopold’s music is very rewarding for Tobias, both as it is music of the highest quality, and gives him exciting projects for recordings and concerts around the world.

A few years ago, Tobias found the sonata among Leopold’s manuscripts. It was in an incomplete state, and he has completed the work for the concert.

At the time of the concert in New York, there will also be a CD release with Leopold van der Pals’ string quartets, Nos. 1-3, and In Memoriam, which Leopold composed for Marie Steiner’s funeral.
