From Jesus to Christ
From Bethlehem to the River Jordan

These Holy Nights begin with the birth of Jesus and the coming of the Shepherds as described in the Luke Gospel. Thirteen days later on 6th January we celebrate the coming of the Kings as described in the Matthew Gospel, and the Baptism, described in all four Gospels – the Epiphany. These events in the life of Jesus of Nazareth prepare for the Incarnation of Christ and the redemptive deed of Golgotha. Some esoteric aspects of what this means are included in the lectures Rudolf Steiner gave in 1911, From Jesus to Christ (GA 131) and provide the background to our work this evening.

Much of what Rudolf Steiner presented in language and concepts from his Christological spiritual research in the 20th century was revealed as an open secret through form and colour in art by the great masters of the Renaissance five hundred years earlier. This lecture will explore the Christmas narratives and the Epiphany event, and will be illustrated with works of Fra Angelico, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Leonardo and others.

Events are organized by program committee of Chicago Rudolf Steiner Branch.
