Free Columbia Residency Program

Starting January 2025, Free Columbia is offering self-directed, community supported, three-month music and art residencies.

Art and music created consciously and shared with the world will change the world. This is at the core of Free Columbia’s mission. It is out of that impulse that this residency program is offered. This is an opportunity to follow through on a creative inspiration with the support and accountability of a community of fellow practitioners. We offer studio space, structured support, and collaborative opportunities, and have housing options for temporary stay. Located in the vibrant Hudson River valley, there is no shortage of network or cultural exchange, not to mention natural beauty and inspiration.

The form is simple:
The applicant will develop a project proposal, which they will work to complete over a three month period, supported by Free Columbia staff and other resident artists. Throughout the residency the artist will share their creative process with the Free Columbia community. This will culminate in a final presentation of the work completed. Free Columbia hosts weekly potluck dinners followed by artistic presentations, workshops, or performances from artists and musicians in residency. These regular gatherings serve as an inspiring and supportive space for residents to share their works in progress and to explore and try out new ideas.

This is a transformational process with a focus on the continual dialogue between artist and community, fostering a meaningful exchange not only for the artist but for Free Columbia and, we believe, for the world. Please reach out with your interest!
