The Creative Word in Eurythmy

THE CONSONANTS AS COSMIC-CREATIVE FORCES

We will begin our lessons with a study of the gestures of the consonants. These portray the formative forces of Creation as etheric movements that have sculpted the natural world and also our human body.
We will then turn to our artistic study with verses from the Calendar of the Soul, a collection of 52 verses written by Rudolf Steiner to mark the changing seasons. We will start with a verse from the heart of winter and culminate with the verse for the Easter, harmonizing our personal soul life with the changing seasons.
The Calendar of the Soul verses describe the dynamic relationships of the Sun and the Earth, sources of Outer Light and Inner Light. Rudolf Steiner wrote these 52 verses in 1912. Each is 6-8 lines long and experienced as an artistic meditation. He later drew eurythmy forms for each verse, to be performed by 2 to 7 performers. And although we will not attempt to learn these very complicated forms, we will still be able to enter deeply into the soul-spiritual experience of the poems.
