Explore New Ways of Developing Color, Form, and Motif “Out of the Color”

Working with color in a living way nurtures a person’s life. Developing a feeling for the artistic process brings one to a deeper understanding of the meaning of life and death. We strive to create a setting and a mood in which a student feels inspired to enter into a process of making the unseen visible. We will explore the differential of Image colors and Lustre colors. The Image colors–black, white, green, peach blossom–have a feeling of dullness, wakefulness. Whereas, the Lustre colors–red, yellow, blue–shine, dreamy. Art awakens the creative forces in our souls and penetrates our life in all areas.

Our major work will be watercolor veil painting. A block of composition each day in light and dark ending in color glazes.

Most of our work will be in the studio. One afternoon, we will go outside sketching the Sangre de Christo Mountains with gouache paints. Two afternoons, we will work with line and color, experimenting with colored inks and gouache paints. The last day in the afternoon will be with Wade Cavin working with the physical and non-physical effects of color. He will also give an evening presentation on a similar theme and on Goethe. Noah Baen with give an evening on William Turner’s life and art.
