Two Weeks of Waldorf Eurythmy Pedagogy 2023
Week One: Monday – Friday, August 14-18, 2023
Week Two: Monday – Friday, August 21-25, 2023
Eurythmy Spring Valley is delighted to offer two weeks of pedagogy for professional eurythmists on our campus in August 2023, embedded in our pedagogical training program. Each course week will provide a different pedagogical focus and content for participants, working with the eurythmy curriculum for middle and high school years.
Week One: Monday – Friday, August 14-18, 2023
Maria Ebersole, from the Aurora Waldorf School in New York, will be presenting the eurythmy curriculum in grades sixth through eighth, covering rod and concentration exercises for this age, TIAOAIT, tackling a ballad, and much more. The afternoons will be dedicated to exploring themes, such as working to diversify our choices in teaching material and breaking down an exercise or skill into teachable stages, among others. Complimenting this work will be a study with Lynn Arches from the Orchard Valley Waldorf School, VT, and Berkshire Waldorf School, MA, looking at how the Waldorf curriculum supports the adolescent, through the writings of Betty Staley and lectures by Rudolf Steiner.
Week Two: Monday – Friday, August 21-25, 2023
Alexandra Spadea, from Rudolf Steiner School New York, will take up working with grades nine through twelve, looking at where the students are at in their development and the appropriate eurythmy pieces and forms that support students at this time. The course will explore several inquiries, including how eurythmy can meet and support the adolescent as an integral part of their high school experience and how the eurythmy lesson can cultivate and strengthen the social fabric of the class. Harlan Gilbert from Green Meadow Waldorf School will explore how the liberation of consciousness unfolds in the high school years, focusing on how pupils’ journey toward autonomy may be nurtured pedagogically.
Each course will provide a review of pedagogical forms and their relevance for the period of childhood being studied, as well as themes from the curriculum, especially adaptable for use in eurythmy. Participants will have time to share materials and consider together the challenges of the 21st-century child in eurythmy.
We are holding these pedagogical courses for ESV students in training, but have found that it enriches the courses for everyone to have practicing teachers join the ongoing training as Refresher courses. So all are welcome! We have evening gatherings and will have more information on this later.
