Mathematics Alive: Pentagon, Pentagram, and the Golden Mean

2024 MATH ALIVE! LED BY HENRIKE HOLDREGE AND MARISHA PLOTNIK

The course is a unique professional development opportunity for middle school teachers and home-schooling educators who wish to bring an enlivened approach to math lessons. This year’s topic is approached through freehand drawings and movement, and through geometrical drawings with compass and straightedge. Proportions inherent in the pentagram will be explored as well as the wonders of the golden mean. The Fibonacci series and the irrational golden number will also be met.

In addition, the workshop is an opportunity for collegial exchange and sharing. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided on Saturday, and a morning snack on Sunday. Please bring a lunch on Saturday, or you can buy prepared food at the Hawthorne Valley Farm Store nearby.

Saturday, March 9, 2024, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm (with a 1.5-hour lunch break)
Sunday, March 10, 2024, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
