JUDITH ERB’S PRESENTATION:
The Musical Tones of the Periodic Table Harmonizing Life’s Symphony

Come to enjoy the musicality of the elements and compounds of life. Beginning with a consideration of the cosmic qualities of hydrogen (H), the element comprising 98% of the sun’s substance, and oxygen (O), the most abundant element in the earth’s crust (49%), this presentation will bring a taste of how through their union, water becomes the conductor of the biochemical symphony of life. As life unfolds, the harmonies of chlorophylls, sugars, proteins, and DNAs will be heard sounding into the water. This talk endeavors to speak biochemistry to the scientist, while translating the chemistry of life into musical metaphors understood by non-scientist and scientist alike.

Born and raised in a North Dakota farm family, Judith Erb uprooted herself and went to the University of California in Berkeley where she obtained her B.S. in Chemistry. While an undergraduate, she invented and built a machine that automatically performed a chemical synthesis of polypeptides. This gained her entrance to graduate school at California Institute of Technology at a time when their information catalogue said: “women need not to apply.” There she obtained an M.S. in Biochemistry and completed candidacy requirements for her Ph.D. She has lived a multifaceted life as a research scientist, a mother of two Waldorf students, a Waldorf teacher, a high-tech entrepreneur, and a musician/composer. She discovered Rudolf Steiner in 1981, and has been a student of anthroposophy ever since.
