Community Building in the Age of Polarisation

Immense forces are at work in our time to divide human beings, one from another, based on greed, geography, ethnicity, race, class, gender, sexual orientation and identity, medical orientation, political leanings, worldview and so on. How did we get here and what is this landscape asking of us as students of spiritual science and of our anthroposophical communities? Drawing on the wisdom of anthroposophy and social threefolding, Robert Karp will share some thoughts to open up a conversation on how we–as individuals, groups, and organizations–can begin to cultivate the spiritual and social capacities necessary to navigate, and bring healing into this challenging landscape.

Robert Karp is a consultant, educator, writer, and long-time leader in the sustainable agriculture movement in the US. He is the former executive director of the Biodynamic Association in the United States and of Practical Farmers of Iowa. Robert’s writings include Social Justice in the Light of Anthroposophy: An Awakening Call, Toward an Associative Economy in the Sustainable Food and Farming Movement (self-published, 2007), “Agriculture and the Sacred” (published by Sacred Spirit Books in Journeys and Awakenings, Wisdom for Spiritual Travelers), A New American Revolution: Associative Economics and the Future of the Food Movement (published by Hawthorne Press in Free, Equal, and Mutual: Rebalancing Society for the Common Good, 2018). Robert has a masters degree in education from Iowa State University and has completed a three-year training in Anthroposophic Psychology.
